Chemistry Startups Pitch – Who are the year’s ‘Resource Innovator’ in the chemical industry?

Berlin, July 05, 2018

“The second Berlin Raw Material Summit on June 25th honored the best business ideas that use sustainable resources such as plants and CO2 instead of fossil resources such as oil.”

Five international startups from the chemical industry have pitched for the title ‘Resource Innovator 2018’ at the ideas competition of the 2nd Raw Material Summit at the Technische Universität (TU) Berlin. A panel of five experts evaluated the startups on their contribution to renewable resources, their market and innovation potential, and their performance. The finalists Battery Nano Technologies, Nano-Join, Polylabs, Mayasil and Mineral Carbonation International were able to prevail in the run against 19 other applicants from home and abroad.

The ideas competition will be moderated by Marie Westphal, Manager of the Chemistry Platform within the German Startup association, and Arno Zimmermann from the Technische Universität (TU) Berlin. The Raw Material Summit was launched in 2017 by Covestro, TU and DECHEMA and was sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Experts from science, industry, society and politics are addressing the question of how the consumption of oil can be reduced in the chemical and plastics industries. For this, alternative raw materials such as CO2 and vegetable biomass are increasingly being considered.
